You're hungry when you're fasting! What can you eat while you're doing intermittent fasting (IF) and what's the best thing to eat when you're coming out of your fasted state?
These are common questions. Remember you can find all the Intermittent Fasting videos on my YouTube channel. Get the info on how to do it, the best way to do IF for weight loss, the benefits and what you should eat during and after the fasted state.
What can you eat while you're in your fasted state? Not much! We are trying to avoid our blood sugar from spiking and avoid the hormone insulin from being released. This teaches our bodies to use fat as fuel instead of sugar.
Every time we eat, insulin is secreted causing the fat burning process to come to a halt. If you are hungry opt for: plain water, lemon water, black coffee, black tea, herbal tea, or a small bit of apple cider vinegar in lukewarm or room temp water.
If you're hungry in those evening hours right before bed time, go to bed early! Not only will you be getting some extra sleep, but you'll be curbing that raging appetite. If you're feeling hunger pangs in the morning, before you're supposed to break your fast, have some black coffee, or herbal teas. Really anything without adding calories is OK here.
Now what should you eat when coming out of your fast? Remember, the minimum fast for maximum results is twelve hours.
If you've been in a fasted state for twelve or more hours, we need to come out of it with easy to digest nutrient dense foods. Here are my favorites:
Soups are a great way to introduce a nutrient plant dense food to break your fast. Get creative here. There are so many options!
Cooked veggies are always going to be easier to digest than raw. Check out my youtube video for my favorite roasted veggie recipe.
Fermented foods like yogurt and kefir are another great way to ease your body into digestion.
Healthy fats like avocado are also easy to digest and pack a nutrient dense punch. Add them to your smoothie for an extra smooth texture.
Bone broth from a good quality source can be another easy option. Drink it as a soup or add it to another meal. It's a great way to add electrolytes that you may need to replace since you've been fasting.
